We took two taxis and a bus from Costa Rica to reach Mark & Dave’s in Nicaragua. It was a detour for us but it was so worth going a bit north again to hook up with these guys. Margaret and Matt who owns and runs Bing Surfboards had gathered a group of people who was gonna spend a week together in a house on a beach in Nicaragua. When we reached Mark & Dave’s villa we got greeted by surfers from the great lake of Michigan, a sergeant from Cali, a young promising surfer pro and a bunch of other interesting people. It was in the air that this was gonna be a great week.

Margaret had packed x kilos with stuff to us from various sources, it felt like Christmas.

I made this balcony to my little office. I could see everything I cared about from here; the sunset, the pool and the boys in the surf. When they were finished they walked in to the cute town of El Cuco and bought “pupusas” for dinner. Really enjoyed the time here!

We were SO happy to hook up with Max, Pontus and Nick! Felt really crazy meeting them in El Salvador out of all places. Me (Linn) and Max have been to Fuerteventura together a couple of times, Pontus and I have been to Las Palmas and various places in Sweden and Nick traveled with me & Petter in Indonesia last year. And suddenly we’re all gathered on a beautiful beach in Central America, awesome! We also met a new friend; Marjolein! It turned out that we have common friends with her in Holland, so crazy.

We acclimatized quick to the cold weather and it was kind of nice to be freezing again. We slept with two blankets each, but daytime when the sun came out it felt like Swedish spring! San Cristobal de la Casas is a beautiful town where you can walk around enjoying life and the nice surroundings and stop for a cup of good local coffee or some Maya indian hot chocolate.

The beach here is amazing. The only building on the beach is the restaurant which is a palapa/bungalow made of bamboo etc and easily could be taken down and poff, suddenly you would have an untouched beach with a beautiful wave in front of it! Kind of hard to find 2012. It’s the community who runs it all and the local families take turns running the restaurant. You pay 20 pesos per person to enter the road down to the beach, money that goes to the local school and to maintain the road etc.
If you ever find yourself in this little paradise make sure not to miss the guacamole with home made nachos and the torta de pescado (fish sandwich), it goes along great with a coconut! Feels like being stranded on a lonely beach with food as your only companion, could really be worse huh?
