Went over to the guys to grab some food, they took us to their local favorite. Mumma that was a good place!

We had the most delicious fish and the most delicious shrimps ever. Each plate cost us 4 dollars, bargain eeh? Fresh from the sea this morning. Some old locals came up to us and we started to conversate in Spanish, we think.. hehe. Look at the lady we met, isn’t she the shortest person in the world? She was like to my waist! And as tall as Linn sitting down. They where soo nice and we just couldn’t leave so we stayed at the restaurant forever. We bought the old lady a soda just because she was so sweet and she got so happy she almost started to cry..

We wanted to surf so badly though, since all of us just met after being in different parts of the world so we rushed down to the beach for a sunshine session which turned into a moonlight session in like 10 minutes, haha. And the wind was so strong onshore, we were like the only guys out, guess we are the only ones used to surf a mess like that, haha. Swede hot spot and very epic.

We were SO happy to hook up with Max, Pontus and Nick! Felt really crazy meeting them in El Salvador out of all places. Me (Linn) and Max have been to Fuerteventura together a couple of times, Pontus and I have been to Las Palmas and various places in Sweden and Nick traveled with me & Petter in Indonesia last year. And suddenly we’re all gathered on a beautiful beach in Central America, awesome! We also met a new friend; Marjolein! It turned out that we have common friends with her in Holland, so crazy.

One of those nice dinners out on town. Not that we have cooked home even once on this trip, but still one of the better ones. For dessert: outdoor jazz! Tomorrow we’re going to El Salvador, can’t wait!

Took a shuttle to Antigua, the beautiful colonial town just an hour from Gutemala City. We found Holistico Hostel close to the cathedral. A nice little room with a very nice bed! The claim they have the best coffee in Antigua, which isn’t true. We found a lot better just a few blocks away. We had left our surfboards in a travel agency before we went to lake Atitlán, felt so strange/nice/lighter to travel without them. But we were happy to pick them up since our hearts ached with longing to get to the sea again. Tomorrow we ‘re gonna take a shuttle to the beaches of El Salvador.

When we took the boat around the lake we saw all the big gringo-houses that had amazing locations, some really high on steep mountain sides, and some really really close to shore, with their lawn leading straight down into the lake. After a while it looked really strange actually. And than we came into a little bay and we saw that there where houses under water as well.

Later we heard that they have huge problem with the water level rising to fast, it has risen 2-3 meters in 2 years so all the beach front expensive lots are not that attractive anymore.. All the villages are moving further and furher up the hills, wonder how long it will take until it’s totally flooded.. It’s 340 meters deep atm and since it’s an endorheic lake no water floods out to sea, it just stays there. Wonder how many maya temples or old houses that could be found under the surface too.

If I would have edited a picture per day this post only would have been enough for two months.  But I don’t, or we don’t, both of us work with our photos and this blog with one camera each and one computer each, every day.

And we do it cuz we love it. This is so much fun.

Check this day out for example, how can you not want to share this excperience?

All of the images below are from the same day, we thought we wanted to experience some local maya life which is very rich around lago de atitlan, so we decided to go around the lake in one day. We took the boat between a few villages, walked through some and a crazy tuktuk through most of them. Pretty much all of the images are shot from the tuktuk as well as we spent most of the time in it haha, that way we got to see as much as possible before taking the last boat home. We also got the opertunity to sneak up to people and snap their photo before they knew what was going on. The tuktuk driver thought this was so much fun, laughed so hard and joined the game.
