Ahangama, Sri Lanka: the surf village we call home

Ahangama is a fishing and surf village on the south coast of Sri Lanka, twenty minutes from Galle and twenty minutes from Mirissa. Stilt fishermen, a railway line running along the palms, small kades selling king coconuts, and a string of beach breaks and reefs within a few minutes of each other.

Our villa sits a five-minute walk from the ocean, right in the middle of village life.

Within a short tuk-tuk ride you have gentle beach breaks for surf lessons, the longboard walls of Weligama, the reefs of Midigama and Kabalana, and quieter spots we keep for the days the swell lines up. Our coaches choose the break each morning based on the tide and your level — see the surf camp page for how the week works.

The south coast season runs from November to April, with the cleanest conditions in the early morning. From May to October the east coast around Arugam Bay takes over, while Ahangama stays warm, green and surfable at dawn. We host our surf and yoga weeks year-round.
