At the heart of Sunshine Stories is a charming old Dutch colonial building, designed in the traditional Walawwa style and inspired by the timeless architecture of Geoffrey Bawa.
The building features rooms arranged around a central courtyard, each with its own unique character. Built from clay in the traditional way, the rooms remain naturally cool and do not feature air conditioning—because, quite simply, you won’t need it.
In our lush garden, we also offer four bungalows with private en-suite bathrooms:
- One bungalow is without air conditioning, ideal for those seeking a more traditional experience.
- Our three newest Jungalows are fully air-conditioned and represent the highest grade of accommodation we offer, blending modern comfort with timeless design.

Main building rooms
Lazy Left – Single
This is a small room for single occupancy – with a private en-suite outdoor bathroom. Perfect for the solo traveller!
Lazy Right – Twin
This is a small room for two people in a bunkbed, double occupancy with a bathroom in the hall. A good budget option for the solo traveller.
Sunshine – Double
The Sunshine double is small but cozy! The bathroom is a spacious outdoor bathroom, watch the monkeys swing between the palm tree’s while you’re having a shower. Beds can be arranged as singles or as a double.
Frangi Pani – Dorm
This dorm room is for women only, has four beds and a maximum occupancy of 4 people. The bathroom is ensuite and beautifully set outdoors with a private courtyard and a double shower.
Courtyard – Double
The courtyard double is the most spacious double direct with access to the beautiful courtyard. It has an ensuite bathroom & a small desk. The beds are singles and possible to separate on your request
Jungalows
Small Jungalow – Double (non AC)
The jungalow is our favourite honeymoon room! A private bungalow in the garden, with a spacious outdoor en-suite bathroom and a small front porch to soak in the sounds of the jungle.
Small Jungalow – Double (AC + pool view)
Each jungalow offers double or twin beds, modern comforts like hot water, air conditioning, and a private veranda overlooking the pool. Thoughtfully crafted with tropical luxury in mind, these jungalows provide an elegant, serene escape perfect for friends, or couples looking for a truly unforgettable stay in paradise.
Large Jungalow – Double or Triple (AC + pool view)
The spacious jungalows feature double or twin beds, a large convertible daybed, and the option to add a fourth bed at a discounted rate—ideal for families or groups, or just a couple that want the extra space and comfort. With modern amenities like hot water, air conditioning, and a private veranda overlooking the pool, these jungalows promise the best possible stay at Sunshine Stories.
